Global Coherence Initiative & HeartMath

Last Saturday night I went to the Global Coherence Initiative presentation given by a man named Howard. He started out talking about HeartMath which is about feeling good and how feeling good reduces stress and helps everyone and then went on to the Global Coherence Initiative.

From their site, they said "Personal coherence, also known as psychophysiological coherence, refers to the synchronization of our physical, mental and emotional systems. It can be measured by our heart-rhythm patterns: The more balanced and smooth they are, the more in sync, or coherent, we are. Stress levels recede, energy levels increase and our brain and what HeartMath calls the "heart brain" are working together. It is a state of optimal clarity, perception and performance. HeartMath tools and technology have been scientifically proven to help us achieve personal coherence."

They also talked about "emWave" stuff.
"Question: Is the emWave® technology like biofeedback?

Answer: The emWave technology, though easy to learn and use, is a sophisticated, accurate heart-rhythm-coherence feedback system that can help people reduce stress levels, manage emotions and improve their health. For more detailed information about this topic and to learn more about the emWave family of products go to emWave PSR or emWave PC."

The heart has a nervous system of it's own and knows more than we think it does. Howard explained that what we want is up and down hills, sloping hills and not jagged peaks, essentially. Family friend Gail volunteered to have this thing clipped to her ear (which monitors the heart rate) and she was asked to not do anything special...just sit there and breathe. All the while, her heart rate was being monitored and measured on this graph, going up and down from being in front of people, I am sure. There were also 3 bars, one each for low, medium, and high. Howard said that low was normal, and that high was a better step up on the scale that they had made for being more coherent. She was 100% low when this whole thing began.

Then after a minute of regular breathing, she was asked to do some simple math problems and suddenly the whole room laughed! The heart rate on the screen had gone up incredibly high and was so jagged that it looked like something was seriously wrong. Howard backtracked and said don't worry, just relax and we won't do any math problems. He asked her to close her eyes and breathe a little deeper than normal. He said to envision something that makes her happy and to focus on her heart. Immediately her whole graph changed and it became clear that on the low, medium, and high bars, she was 15% on high and had skipped over medium. It was quite fantastic.

He told us a bit about how HeartMath and the GCI were related but to me it was a bit fuzzy. I might have just zoned out at that point, I don't know. The GCI website says:

The Global Coherence Initiative is designed to help individuals and groups work together, synchronistically and strategically to increase the impact of their efforts to create positive global change.

Together we will:

  • Increase personal coherence for the benefit of ourselves and the planet
  • Help shift the planetary consciousness baseline from self-centeredness to wholeness care
  • Increase connection and social harmony
  • Empower our ability to navigate through global changes with less stress and more ease
  • Empower environmental responsibility and stewardship of the planet

This project has been initiated because millions of people sense that this is an extraordinary time; that a paradigm shift of human consciousness is now under way; that we are at the crossroads of change and must move toward the healing of ourselves and our planet. Many people are feeling a strong desire to help change our present and future conditions and are looking for ways to use their heart, spirit-aligned wisdom and care to make a meaningful difference.

There are times when you can join in on thinking positive thoughts and log in and see other's doing it too. They have this flash-based interactive Earth that you can see where people are doing it and it makes it more of a community feel. Pretty neat.

There is a theory they have that the Ionosphere actually has some sort of mirror of human emotion and this GCI is trying to prove it through complicated electromagnets and the like. Their main one, "Maggie" is set up in California and actually measured the huge changes that happened on September 11th and even Obama's inauguration. Howard took no steps to say anything about how this might relate to what we were feeling or how the Ionosphere played a role, he merely presented the facts. The GCI is science-based so there were no interpretations, only facts and graphs shown. However, I would like to infer that human emotion changed the Ionosphere in some small way and it was reflected in what Maggie picked up.

Now, at probably some point before now, one would think this was some sort of scam but they ask only for donations so I don't think one can assume that. They are trying to make money for more magnets, something like 15 total, and each one costs around 50,000 US dollars.

I by no means can do it all justice. It was a great presentation and very informative and I would recommend anyone who thinks they can help the planet in just a little way to check out the websites because there is a ton of cool stuff you can do on the sites as well as feel more of a part of something.
